I appreciate this post, as this is an issue we go back and forth on quite often, for many of the reasons you mentioned. We have ultimately decided that on the days Wes can be home at a reasonable hour, we eat together as a family. It is definitely the most aggravating hour of our day, each day, without fail. Why do we still do it? Otherwise, I would be doing something related to cooking, cleaning and eating from 5-8:30pm. I also want to only cook one meal and get the kids used to eating adult food. Two separate meals, for me, would likely result in making too many kid-friendly dinners for the kiddos. Though the romantic in me much prefers the relaxed and adults-only meal that happens sans kid, the practical side of me wins when I don't want four hours of kitchen time. Keep me posted on how it goes.

It is amazing to see the ways in which you embody your grandfather's traits (artistic talent and intellectual ability, to name two). I cannot imagine a greater compliment to him than seeing his family carry on his legacy. I am sorry for the losses you have experienced throughout his illness and for the ultimate loss last week.

Charlie had RSV twice as a little baby. Once we had to take her to the ER at Mercer for it. It had nothing to do with breastmilk or formula, it was all Nathan's fault. :) The reality is he had a decent immune system built up and brought all sorts of stuff home that barely bothered him but got Charlie good.

You are an amazing mother and have nothing to beat yourself up over! I hope everyone feels better soon!

I think the germs are all worth it in the end, rather than keeping our kids in a bubble all winter. Don't beat yourself up about nursing. Isn't the goal to be guided by what best suits mom, baby, and the whole family? You've done that exceeding well, from what I can tell.

Don't know if you've ever done this, but with Ellie, we just give her a clean, dry wash cloth to place over her eyes when we shampoo and rinse. It seems to keep the water out and the panic at bay.

Sending you healthy and healing thoughts!
