Let’s Go Fly a Kite!

Fun with weeds! Fun with weeds!

Ah, the joys of spring! Natalie received a kite as a “goody bag” from her friend Nick’s birthday party. She and Chris took it down to the park as soon as we got home from the party to try it out. Natalie was delighted to see her kite flying through the air, but was also happy to blow dandelion seeds when there wasn’t enough wind to fly the kite for more than a minute at a time.

Natalie/Mommy Day

Since Miranda was born, I’ve obviously had to split my attention between the girls and so far, Natalie has handled this with ease. We think there are a couple of reasons she hasn’t really displayed any jealousy. One is that she is still going to Melissa’s during the day per usual. As much as I’d like to spend as much of my maternity leave with Natalie as possible, staying home with her baby sister wouldn’t be a whole lot of fun. There would be a lot more times when I would have to say, “we can do that once Miranda wakes up” or “I can help you when I’m finished feeding Miranda.” The other reason is that Miranda isn’t a very high needs baby.

Now that Miranda is old enough to spend the day at Melissa’s, I wanted to have a day to spend with just Natalie. As luck would have it, our friend Elaine invited us to come with her and Sophie (who’s just 1 month older than Natalie) to the the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, where they have a membership. When I spent all evening the night before packing the diaper bag, frozen milk, bottles, and my breast pump, I thought it might just be simpler to take Miranda with us! But of course that would defeat the whole purpose of “Natalie/Mommy Day.”

We had such a lovely time! Natalie and Sophie played together like old friends, despite the fact that we haven’t seen them in over a year, and it felt so nice to be able to give Natalie my undivided attention. And Miranda did absolutely fine at her first day with Melissa. I am grateful to Elaine for taking these pictures—the one thing I forgot to pack was the camera!
