Philly Zoo April 7, 2010

Snuggling Giraffes Snuggling Giraffes
Natalie was off from Melissa’s last week for spring break, so Chris took the day off on Wednesday so we could take a family trip to the zoo. It was a lovely day for Miranda’s first trip to the zoo, despite terrible traffic on the way to and from Philadelphia and 95 degree heat. Miranda was happy to be in the stroller, and Natalie was happy to walk, run or skip. I’m grateful that Miranda likes the stroller because she is too young for sunscreen—we were able to drape a thin muslin blanket over the stroller to shield her from the sun. In the mei tai, she’d have to be covered with clothing, and I didn’t want her to be too hot. Because of the heat, we spent lots of time at the indoor exhibits (small mammals, reptiles and amphibians) that we usually pass by. Natalie also had fun riding the carrousel and the zoo train.

Two Month Check-Up

Sideways smile Sideways smile

Miranda had a great two month check-up today. She is now 12 pounds, 10 ounces and 23.5 inches long. That’s a gain of four pounds and two inches since her birth and is now in the 90th percentile for both height and weight. Dr. Stephen wasn’t at all concerned about the rash on her face, but thinks it may be a combination of baby acne and eczema. Although she thinks it will clear up on its own, she recommended putting aquaphor cream on it 2 or 3 times a day for a week.

Miranda got four shots and one oral vaccine. I gave her tylenol in advance and she actually didn’t cry for the first three shots. Based on her screams, the fourth shot must have stung a lot! She calmed down surprisingly quickly, and only got fussy four hours later when the tylenol wore off.

Baking Lessons

A couple of weeks ago it rained hard all day on Tuesday, aka “Meema and Pop Pop Day.” To fill the time while staying dry, we held our own story time with books and music, Natalie helped Pop Pop fix the door to Miranda’s room, and Natalie and Meema baked peanut butter cookies. Natalie very proudly did the criss-cross pattern herself using a fork. I love this picture of the two of them baking in their aprons together!!
