A Walk in the Woods (updated!)

Another better-late-than never post of picture from our hike through the woods at the end of July. We picked one of the hottest days of the summer and went late in a day that Natalie hadn’t napped, but we all got through the one-mile walk pretty well!

C'mon guys!!

Resting

Climbing over logs

Dense path

Running across the bridges

Girl in the woods

Drinking water from mommy's camelback

"Cheese!"

"Oh, look at that!"

Meema reminded me that I forgot to include a story from our adventure! For most of the summer, Natalie has wanted to wear her flip-flops all the time. Since we’d never walked this one-mile hike and weren’t sure of the terrain, we convinced her to wear her shoes, telling her about all the tree roots and rocks we’d encounter. Along the walk (“hike” doesn’t seem accurate because the trail was completely flat) we passed a stream. Since on our recent trip to Howell Living History Farm we let Natalie wade in a shallow stream, she naturally wanted to do the same in the woods. But I didn’t want her to get her shoes wet, and the stream was way too rocky to allow her to venture in barefoot. Natalie was, of course, very disappointed that she couldn’t throw rocks from inside the stream and kept asking “WHY?!?!?!” we weren’t allowing her to go in. After I explained about her shoes a few times, I suggested that next time we go on this hike, she can wear her shoes and we’ll bring her flip-flips to change into for wading in the stream. Her eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, “OR, we can go home RIGHT NOW and get my flip-flops so I can go in the water RIGHT NOW!!!!” Did I mention that it was 95 degrees out and we were only half-way through the one-mile walk?
