Ever since watching the first presedential debate, Natalie recognizes Barack Obama by sight or by voice. Whenever she sees or hears him, she cries, “Yay Obama!”*
A few weeks ago, Meema was wearing a pin that said Obama in the middle. As if on cue, Natalie pointed to it and said, “Yay Obama!”
Meema very excitedly said, “Natalie can read!!!”
“Natalie can’t read, Mom, she just recognizes your pin from last week.”
“Well, that’s sight recognition of words. She’s reading!”
“Natalie, what’s this?” (I pointed to my wordless Obama pin.)
“Yay Obama!!”
“See? That’s brand recognition, not reading.”
Today we took Natalie with us to vote in the second important election of her life (her first election was the primary). It’s thrilling to involve Natalie in democracy—she helped push the buttons!
Did you vote today? Obama/Biden ‘08!!
*Yeah, we admit to coaching her on that one.
