Dearest Amy and Chris, I feel your saga of Natalie's sleep patterns brings back my old memories (that's 53 - 51-45 - 43 - and 40 years' ago!!!) My overall strong picture is that none of our children ever slept through the night until they hit four months of age. And I nursed them all. The in and out of the crib games were over and my last evening nursing began around 7:00 PM and they were in their cribs for the night - soon it became over 8 or 9 hours. So hang in there kids - it will get easier and you'll begin to get a good night's sleep. Of course our situations were different - Pop Pop had to be up with me at 6:00 AM to get a good breakfast and be out of the house by 7:15 t o start work at 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at PSE&G and was home 5:15 ish for dinner every night (for 37 years) unless there was storm trouble and overtime. We know Natalie has to be awake to give her dear Dad some playtime, diapering, cuddling, etc after he gets back from NYC after 8:00 PM. I also tried to stick to a morning nap and afternoon nap (not too long a time) - as they got older - one afternoon nap seemed to do it. And I do encourage you, dear Amy, after reading some good "sleep" books to her, such as "Good Night Moon", and after (changing her diaper one last time and nursing one last time ) to include using your beautiful voice to sing a medly of lullabye songs before putting her
in her crib, cuddling a favorite soft bunny or teddy, and leaving her in her crib with a low- Watt night light on (even if not asleep yet)and closing the bedroom door[. I found that it was important for them to know that the crib was their very own place for sleeping the night with a pretty set routine. Of course, teething often blows a hole in the routine, but's it helpful off and on during the day to rub the bowl of a teaspoon across the gums gently.

By the way, this whole set of pictures is beautiful - just make copies of your choice of two a set if you have time for us and we'll be in seventh heaven having them and showing them to friends who've been asking to see them. I'm a BUST in making copies and I have a whole package of photo paper to give you when you come Monday. Can't wait to see, talk to, sing to, and see how she and baby David react and notice one another. It should be fun for us all! Love and kisses, Great Grandma
