Natalie’s a Funny Girl!

A Little Culture

We took Natalie to the opening party for Nama’s latest photography show on Friday night. Natalie was in heaven at being admired by all of Nama’s friends! We’ve discovered that she’s quite a party girl & loves to meet new people. Chris and I are both shocked that we (two introverts) managed to give birth to an extrovert. Chris was happy to be taking indoor picture without needing to use the flash—love that gallery lighting! The dress Natalie is wearing is another beautiful hand-me-down from Josie, Mark & Tam. Thanks, guys!

Eeek!! Teething!

It’s been a week since my post about Natalie miraculously going to sleep with the pacifier, and teething has begun in earnest. Sleeping has been totally disrupted. At first, Natalie would only sleep next to me. Then Wednesday night she would only sleep while nursing, and as soon as she relaxed enough to unlatch, she woke up crying. Thursday night was a little better, but she’s still pretty miserable at night. Napping during the day isn’t much better. This morning, she actually had bags under her eyes. And she’s back to completely rejecting the pacifier.

Here she is asleep in her swing. But I obviously shouldn’t have been bold enough to post this, because as I’m typing, she’s waking up after sleeping only 25 minutes. Oy Vey. Maybe I’ll try vacuuming…the house has actually never been cleaner since we found that to help Natalie to sleep. Thanks, Lindsay, for reminding me of that trick!

Four Month Check-Up

We saw the pediatrician this morning for Natalie’s 4 month well-baby visit. She is now 26.75 inches and 15 pounds, 11 ounces. That’s the 90th percentile for weight and she’s “off the charts” for height!!!

The doctor was impressed by Natalie’s head control and to see her doing her stomach “crunches.” Dr Labian said crunches are a 9 month skill! Given this, the Dr. thought that Natalie might be developmentally ready to start trying some solid foods. Nutritionally Natalie is getting all that she needs from breast milk, so starting solid foods would be more to develop the muscles needed to chew. The doctor said developing these muscles is important in terms of speech development, too. Who knew? We’re going to follow the doctor’s recommendation and watch for Natalie to give us cues that she is ready, including looking interested in the food adults eat.

We feel very lucky to have such a healthy daughter!

Since she now is 4 months old, Natalie is mature enough to use her exersaucer! Natalie was unsure about the exersaucer at first, but now likes it a lot. It’s great to put her in it while we cook dinner. Thank you, Vivian & Richard for handing the exersaucer down to us!

New Tricks!

Natalie is not a trained monkey, but she does have some new tricks. Sometimes we’re lucky enough to catch them on camera. She has now rolled over in both directions! The first time she rolled from her back to her tummy, I missed it—I went into the kitchen for a minute and when I came back, she was on her belly! Since then she’s done it in my presence and Nama witnessed it too. She just needs to roll over for Daddy so he can see it! And in front of the video camera…

Here she is trying to sit up. She does these “crunches” every day. Check out her abs!

We all love her new Imse Vimse (that’s Swedish for “itsy bitsy”) diaper covers, from Momma Commune Boutique:
